Primary School
At Ardingly Astana, our Primary School helps children become confident, independent learners. From the earliest years, pupils are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas and understand the world around them.
We create an environment where curiosity is valued, challenges are welcomed, and mistakes are seen as part of the learning process. Children are supported to try new things, build problem-solving skills and grow in confidence.
Following the Cambridge International Curriculum, we provide a broad, balanced education that combines strong academic foundations with an understanding of different cultures, preparing pupils for life in a connected world.
Key Stage 1
Years 1–2 Ages 5–7
In Key Stage 1, learning is active, engaging and carefully structured. Children build strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics through practical activities, discussion and guided exploration.
Lessons are designed to develop curiosity and confidence. Pupils investigate science through hands-on experiences, explore history and geography through topic-based learning, and express themselves through art, music and physical education.
At this stage, we focus on developing essential habits: listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, working collaboratively and taking pride in their achievements.
Key Stage 2
Years 3–6 Ages 7–11
As pupils move into Key Stage 2, they begin to take greater responsibility for their learning. Academic depth increases, and children are encouraged to think more critically and independently.
Reading becomes more analytical, writing more structured and expressive, and mathematics more abstract and problem-based. In science, pupils begin to explore concepts in greater detail, developing logical reasoning and investigative skills.
They participate in projects, research tasks and collaborative learning experiences that strengthen communication, creativity and resilience.
By the end of Year 6, pupils are confident learners, academically secure and well prepared for the transition to Cambridge Lower Secondary.
