Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
Pastoral
Care
At Ardingly Astana, pastoral care is at the heart of school life. Pupils thrive academically only when they feel secure, valued and understood. Our carefully structured system ensures that every child is known as an individual, supported in both their academic progress and personal development.
Smaller class sizes allow teachers to appreciate each pupil’s strengths and needs. Homeroom Teachers form close relationships with their pupils, guiding wellbeing and learning while acting as the first point of contact between home and school.
A sense of belonging is central to our community. Through the House system, team-building initiatives, and co-curricular engagement, pupils develop confidence, friendships, and a shared identity while retaining their individuality.
Pastoral care at Ardingly Astana is proactive. From the first day, pupils are encouraged to build resilience, self-awareness and positive relationships. PSHE is integrated across the curriculum, nurturing reflection, empathy and thoughtful decision-making.
Our aim is simple: to provide a supportive environment where every pupil feels confident, balanced, and truly world-ready.
Health
and Wellbeing
Pupil health and wellbeing is a priority at Ardingly Astana. The school has an on-site medical room, where a doctor and school nurse provide first aid, monitor pupils’ health, and support them during the school day when needed. The medical staff work closely with teachers to ensure that any health-related concerns are identified and addressed in a timely manner.
Pupils also have access to a school psychologist, offering professional and confidential guidance when needed. Support is provided thoughtfully and sensitively, helping pupils navigate challenges and maintain emotional balance.
This ensures that every pupil is cared for attentively and professionally, allowing them to focus on learning and to participate confidently in all aspects of school life.
House
System
The House system is central to community life. From the moment pupils join the school, they become members of one of four Houses, fostering a sense of belonging and shared identity.
Our Houses, named after distinguished Kazakh figures, embody the qualities that define our community: leadership, scholarship, integrity and service.
Houses encourage friendships across year groups and inspire teamwork, loyalty, and healthy competition through academic, sporting and cultural events. This system ensures that every pupil is known, supported and connected – strengthening individual confidence and collective spirit.
Abai – wisdom through reflection
Altynsarin – education with purpose and meaning
